RETURN AND REFUND POLICY

Effective date: July 13, 2026

We want you to feel confident purchasing from RootedGardening. This Return and Refund Policy explains how to request a return, replacement, exchange, cancellation, or refund for products purchased through root-gardening.com.

This policy forms part of our Terms of Service and should be read together with our Shipping Policy.

1. Return Window

You may request a return of an eligible product within 30 calendar days after confirmed delivery.

To qualify, you must contact RootedGardening before the 30-day return period expires. Sending a product back without contacting us does not constitute a valid return request.

Once a return is approved, the product generally must be shipped to the authorized return location within 14 calendar days after return instructions are issued.

Nothing in this policy limits any consumer right or remedy that cannot legally be waived.

2. Return Eligibility

To qualify for a change-of-mind return, a product must generally be:

  • Unused and in substantially the same condition in which it was received;

  • Unassembled and uninstalled;

  • Free from soil, water, plant material, stains, odors, scratches, wear, or other signs of use;

  • Returned with all original parts, hardware, accessories, chargers, batteries, guards, manuals, and packaging;

  • Safely packaged to prevent damage during return shipping; and

  • Accompanied by proof of purchase from RootedGardening.

Opening the shipping carton solely to inspect the product does not automatically make the product ineligible for return. However, products that have been assembled, installed, filled, planted, mounted, operated, charged, altered, or used may not qualify for a change-of-mind return.

We may request photographs before approving a return.

3. How to Request a Return

Before returning anything, email:

Include:

  • Your full name;

  • Your RootedGardening order number;

  • The email address used at checkout;

  • The product you wish to return;

  • The reason for the return;

  • Photographs of the product and packaging when requested; and

  • Whether the product has been opened, assembled, installed, charged, or used.

We will review the request and provide the appropriate next steps.

4. Return Authorization Is Required

All returns must be authorized by RootedGardening before shipment.

Do not mail a return to the address printed on the original shipping label or package unless we specifically authorize that address.

Some RootedGardening products ship directly from third-party suppliers, warehouses, or fulfillment partners. The original shipping location may not accept customer returns.

An unauthorized return may be:

  • Refused by the warehouse;

  • Returned to the sender;

  • Lost or destroyed;

  • Subject to additional shipping charges; or

  • Ineligible for a refund.

RootedGardening is not responsible for a product sent to an unauthorized address.

5. Change-of-Mind Returns

A change-of-mind return includes situations where:

  • You no longer want the product;

  • You ordered the wrong size or color;

  • The product does not fit your space;

  • You found another product you prefer;

  • You changed your gardening or landscaping plans; or

  • You ordered the product by mistake but did not cancel it before fulfillment.

For an approved change-of-mind return:

  • The customer is responsible for return shipping costs;

  • Original shipping charges are not refundable;

  • Expedited, oversized, remote-area, and special-handling charges are not refundable;

  • The product must satisfy the eligibility requirements in this policy; and

  • RootedGardening does not charge a standard restocking fee for a properly returned eligible product.

If RootedGardening supplies a prepaid return label for a change-of-mind return, the label cost may be deducted from the refund. We will disclose the deduction before issuing the label.

6. Damaged, Defective, or Incorrect Products

Contact us as soon as reasonably possible if a product arrives:

  • Damaged;

  • Defective;

  • Missing important components;

  • Materially different from its description; or

  • Different from the product you ordered.

For the fastest resolution, contact us preferably within 7 calendar days after delivery. A delay in contacting us does not eliminate any nonwaivable rights you may have.

Include photographs or video showing:

  • The complete product;

  • The damaged or defective area;

  • The outer shipping carton;

  • The shipping label;

  • All components received; and

  • The product in operation, when safely possible and relevant.

Keep the product, packaging, manuals, hardware, and accessories until we provide instructions.

After reviewing the issue, we may offer an appropriate remedy such as:

  • Sending a replacement component;

  • Replacing the complete product;

  • Providing troubleshooting or assembly assistance;

  • Issuing a partial refund;

  • Issuing a full refund; or

  • Authorizing a return at our expense.

The remedy will depend on the nature of the problem, available inventory, product condition, applicable warranties, and applicable law.

You will not be required to pay return shipping for a verified incorrect, damaged, or defective product when a return is required as part of the approved remedy.

7. Shipping Damage

Damage to an outer shipping carton does not necessarily mean that the product inside is damaged.

Before assembling the product, inspect:

  • Panels and frames;

  • Glass components;

  • Hardware;

  • Blades and guards;

  • Batteries and chargers;

  • Planter liners;

  • Mounting components; and

  • Any parts listed in the manual.

If visible shipping damage is present, photograph the unopened carton before removing the product.

Do not discard the original packaging while a damage claim is being reviewed.

8. Missing Components

Products requiring assembly may have small parts or hardware packed inside:

  • Foam inserts;

  • Cardboard compartments;

  • Planters or frames;

  • Drawers or storage sections;

  • Taped hardware bags; or

  • Other larger components.

Before reporting a missing part, unpack the entire shipment carefully and compare the contents with the manual or parts list.

Some orders arrive in multiple packages. Review all tracking numbers to determine whether another package is still in transit.

When only a replaceable component is missing, we may send that component instead of requiring the complete product to be returned.

9. Large and Oversized Products

Raised garden beds, arches, trellises, greenhouses, bird baths, large planters, crop cages, and similar products may be expensive to return because of their size or weight.

For an approved change-of-mind return of an oversized product:

  • The customer is responsible for the actual return shipping cost;

  • The product must be disassembled when safely possible;

  • All components and hardware must be returned;

  • The product must be packaged securely;

  • Freight, oversized, residential-pickup, or special-handling charges may apply; and

  • A prepaid-label or carrier-pickup cost may be deducted from the refund after disclosure to the customer.

We recommend carefully reviewing product dimensions, weight, materials, assembly requirements, mounting requirements, and available space before ordering.

If a large product is damaged or incorrect, contact us before attempting to disassemble, repair, discard, or return it.

10. Power Tools, Batteries, and Electrical Products

Battery-powered tools and electrical products may be eligible for return when they remain unused, uncharged, unassembled, and in their original condition.

A power tool, battery, charger, sprayer, watering system, or other electrical product may not qualify for a change-of-mind return after it has been:

  • Operated;

  • Charged;

  • Used outdoors;

  • Exposed to water, soil, chemicals, or plant material;

  • Modified;

  • Damaged through misuse; or

  • Returned without required safety components.

This restriction does not apply to a valid defect, damage, warranty, or misdescription claim.

Never ship a damaged, swollen, leaking, punctured, overheated, or otherwise unsafe battery without receiving specific instructions from us. Lithium-battery shipping is subject to carrier safety restrictions.

11. Products That Cannot Be Returned

The following are generally not eligible for change-of-mind returns:

  • Gift cards;

  • Custom-made or personalized products;

  • Products clearly marked “final sale” before purchase;

  • Products that have been assembled, installed, planted in, filled with soil, mounted, anchored, altered, or used;

  • Products damaged through misuse, improper assembly, improper storage, neglect, weather exposure, or unauthorized modification;

  • Products missing parts, hardware, accessories, manuals, batteries, chargers, guards, or packaging;

  • Products contaminated with soil, water, fertilizer, chemicals, pests, plant matter, mold, or other substances;

  • Opened consumable or perishable products, should RootedGardening offer them;

  • Products returned after the applicable return period without prior written approval; and

  • Products purchased from another retailer or marketplace.

A non-returnable designation does not eliminate rights relating to a defective, unsafe, damaged, incorrect, or materially misdescribed product.

12. Exchanges

We do not guarantee direct exchanges because product availability may change while a return is in transit.

The most reliable exchange process is generally:

  1. Request a return for the original eligible product;

  2. Receive return authorization;

  3. Place a separate order for the desired product; and

  4. Receive a refund for the approved return after it is received and inspected.

When appropriate, we may arrange a direct replacement for a damaged, defective, incorrect, or incomplete product.

Price differences, discounts, and shipping charges may apply to a new order.

13. Order Changes and Cancellations

Contact us immediately if you need to cancel an order or correct an address.

We will make a reasonable effort to accommodate the request, but orders may be transmitted to a supplier or fulfillment partner shortly after purchase.

An order cannot normally be canceled after it has:

  • Entered fulfillment;

  • Been packed;

  • Received a shipping label;

  • Been transferred to a carrier; or

  • Shipped.

If cancellation is no longer possible, you may request a return after delivery, subject to this policy.

If we cancel an order before shipment, the canceled amount will be refunded to the original payment method.

If we cannot ship within the promised timeframe, we will provide any delay notice, cancellation option, or refund required by applicable law.

14. Refused or Unclaimed Deliveries

Refusing a package does not automatically create an approved return.

A package refused, unclaimed, or returned because of an incorrect address may incur:

  • Original shipping charges;

  • Return-to-sender charges;

  • Carrier handling charges;

  • Storage charges; or

  • Reshipment charges.

Where legally permitted, these costs may be deducted from an otherwise approved refund if the delivery failure was caused by:

  • An incorrect or incomplete address;

  • Failure to collect the package;

  • Refusal without prior authorization; or

  • Failure to provide reasonable delivery access.

Contact us before refusing a shipment.

15. Return Shipping

Use a trackable shipping service and retain the tracking number and shipping receipt.

Customers are responsible for a return package until it is delivered to the authorized return location.

RootedGardening is not responsible for a return that is:

  • Sent without authorization;

  • Sent to the wrong address;

  • Lost by the return carrier;

  • Damaged because of insufficient packaging; or

  • Shipped without the required parts or documentation.

Purchasing shipping insurance is recommended for higher-value returns.

16. Return Inspection

Returned products are inspected after delivery to the authorized return location.

Inspection may verify:

  • Product identity;

  • Product condition;

  • Completeness;

  • Signs of use or assembly;

  • Damage during return transit;

  • Inclusion of accessories and hardware; and

  • Compliance with the authorized return instructions.

If a return does not satisfy this policy, we may:

  • Deny the refund;

  • Reduce the refund to reflect missing components or avoidable damage, where legally permitted;

  • Offer to ship the product back at the customer’s expense; or

  • Provide another reasonable resolution.

We will explain a material deduction or denial.

17. Refund Amounts

An approved refund may include:

  • The purchase price of the returned product;

  • Applicable taxes associated with the refunded amount; and

  • Original shipping charges when the return results from our error, a verified defect, or verified shipping damage.

An approved change-of-mind refund generally does not include:

  • Original shipping charges;

  • Return shipping charges;

  • Expedited shipping;

  • Oversized or special-handling charges;

  • Carrier pickup costs; or

  • Other nonrefundable services already provided.

Promotional discounts are allocated across the applicable products. A refund will not exceed the amount actually paid for the returned product.

18. Refund Processing

After an approved return is received and inspected, we will notify you whether the refund has been approved.

Approved refunds are generally initiated within 5 business days after inspection and sent to the original payment method unless another method is required by law or expressly agreed upon.

After a refund is initiated, your bank, card issuer, or payment provider may require additional time to post the funds to your account.

RootedGardening cannot send a refund to a different card or bank account merely because the original payment method has expired, been replaced, or is no longer accessible. Contact the financial institution associated with the original payment method if necessary.

Shopify permits merchants to issue full or partial refunds and, where appropriate, refund shipping charges to the customer’s original payment method.

19. Late or Missing Refunds

If you have received confirmation that a refund was issued but do not see it:

  1. Check the original payment account;

  2. Review pending transactions;

  3. Contact your card issuer, bank, or payment provider; and

  4. Allow the provider’s normal processing period.

After completing those steps, contact us with your order number if the refund still cannot be located.

20. Sale and Promotional Products

Products purchased with a discount code or during a promotion remain eligible for return unless they were clearly identified as final sale before purchase.

Refunds are based on the amount actually paid after discounts.

Returning part of an order may cause the remaining order to no longer satisfy the conditions of a promotion. Where permitted and clearly disclosed, the refund may be adjusted to reflect the promotion that applies to the products kept.

21. Replacements

A replacement does not automatically restart the change-of-mind return period.

A replacement product remains protected against verified shipping damage, defects, incorrect fulfillment, and other rights available under applicable law.

When a replacement is issued, we may require the original product or specific components to be returned. Failure to complete an agreed return may result in a charge where authorized and legally permitted.

22. Manufacturer Warranties

Some products may include a separate manufacturer or supplier warranty.

A manufacturer’s warranty is additional to this Return and Refund Policy and does not eliminate any nonwaivable legal rights.

Warranty coverage may exclude:

  • Normal wear;

  • Cosmetic deterioration;

  • Weather damage;

  • Improper assembly;

  • Misuse;

  • Unauthorized repairs;

  • Incompatible batteries or chargers; or

  • Failure to follow care and maintenance instructions.

Contact RootedGardening first so we can identify the appropriate process.

23. Fraudulent or Abusive Claims

We reserve the right to review, limit, or deny a request where there is credible evidence of:

  • Return fraud;

  • Altered photographs or documents;

  • A product substitution;

  • Intentional product damage;

  • Repeated false non-delivery claims;

  • Abuse of replacement or refund procedures;

  • Returning a different product; or

  • Another material violation of our Terms of Service.

We may request additional information reasonably necessary to verify a claim.

This section will not be used to deny a legitimate consumer claim.

24. Consumer Rights

This policy provides RootedGardening’s standard return and refund procedures.

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts, or replaces a warranty, refund right, cancellation right, or other consumer protection that cannot legally be waived.

Where this policy conflicts with mandatory applicable law, the applicable law controls.
